The brief
What the job asked for
The Coffee Box brief was unusual on its face: a coffee bar that could move. The client wanted a relocatable venue with a bold visual statement — something that could land, trade, and if the business needed it, be picked up and placed somewhere else entirely.
Working closely with the designer, the team settled on the shell that solved both halves of the problem: an ex-shipping container — structurally honest, transportable by definition, and full of character before a single trade touched it.
The build
From drawing to trading day
Choosing the container did more than style the bar — it moved the whole build off-site. The fit-out was fabricated inside the Melbourne workshop under a controlled environment: joinery, services and finishes installed with the quality control a factory floor allows and a live site never quite does.
Timber cladding and detailing were set against the raw container steel, keeping the industrial shell legible while warming the service face. Once complete, the finished unit was transported north to Brisbane and landed ready to trade.
On the record
As built, on the books
The record stands as proof of off-site fabrication done properly: a complete hospitality venue built in Melbourne, shipped interstate, and delivered as a finished object. The method — fabricate under one roof, land on site at pace — is the same one behind the record’s fastest fit-out programs.
